Youth Drama 1 – for School Years 7-9 (age 11-14) 6pm-7:30pm*
Youth Drama 2 – for School Years 10-11 (age 14-16) 7:30pm-9pm*

These classes are designed for those with an interest in drama as well as those who need a boost of confidence. The ethos remains the same throughout every class where we encourage a welcoming, friendly and non-competitive atmosphere.

It is also ideal for those taking GCSE Drama, building confidence and furthering their knowledge in their chosen subject whilst enjoying themselves in a non-competitive and supportive environment.

Each week students will be participating in various drama games and activities and will;

• be encouraged to devise original pieces in pairs and groups

• be able to exercise their improvisational skills

• be able to work in groups and problem solve

• be able to follow and understand stage directions

• be supported with their passion to learn creatively

• be able to develop characters

• be able to identify the intentions of the characters

At the current students’ request we also end the sessions with them learning a simple routine to an uplifting musical song, in exactly the same way the adults do. They learn short sections of the routine each week, thus ending the half term knowing it all without feeling pressured to perform or be perfect, just having fun with it, enjoying themselves and being able to let themselves go. There has been many a moment where I’ve forgotten what move comes next and they all love reminding me or even making up the moves themselves, this becomes part of the routine and they feel such a sense of pride. I always choose an uplifting song and this is taught in the final 30 minutes of the class so that the students leave the class feeling happy and positive. ⁣Absolutely no experience is necessary as this is not a dance class, I don’t mind if students have three left feet as long as they bring their enthusiasm and energy! ⁣

My aim is to provide an inclusive Friday night drama related activity for teenagers and young people to meet and socialise.

*If at any point the classes cannot go ahead due to Government Guidelines, we will go straight to online learning so as not to cause any disruption or distress. This will ensure continuity for students for both learning and social interaction.

*If there are not enough students booked onto each session to make it viable to run that specific class the classes will be amalgamated into once class

WHEN ONLINE THE CLASS ENCOMPASSES BOTH YOUTH DRAMA 1 & 2 * Fridays 6pm-7:30pm via Zoom

*The online classes are run in a more relaxed and informal way with an emphasis on fun & creativity. The students are encouraged to use their imaginations and develop their thought processes and skills through various games and activities.

Years 7-11 ⁣ ⁣BOTH CLASSES HAVE BEEN AMALGAMATED INTO ONE ONLINE CLASS ⁣WITH PLACES LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS PER CLASS

As restrictions and tiers are constantly changing I have decided to run these classes online for the time being in order for students to have stability in their lessons from week to week. This class is designed for those with an interest in drama as well as those who need a boost of confidence. The ethos remains the same throughout every class where we all encourage a welcoming, friendly and non-competitive atmosphere. ⁣ ⁣ Each week students will use their imagination and humour and participate in various drama games and activities. I will support each individual’s personal expression and originality through verbal play in activities such as ‘Would You Rather’, ‘Just a Minute’ or “Rumours”. ⁣ ⁣ Students will be able to exercise their improvisational skills and be supported with their passion to learn creatively. ⁣ ⁣

At the current students request is simple movement set to a musical song. Some simple moves will be broken down and set each week so that at the end of the half term a whole routine has been learnt and the students feel another sense of achievement. ⁣

I will continue to provide an inclusive Friday night drama related activity for teenagers and young people to meet and socialise, even if that has to be online!
